Children Ministries

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”  Matthew 19:14

At Simi Valley, UMC children are a vital part of our beloved community. Children are born with an innate sense of wonder and faith that is real and authentic. Our role is to provide a foundation of experiences on which children build a life of learning and growth toward a mature and vital faith

We hope your family will join us as we grow in faith together. We have many opportunities for children to participate in faith formation through small group educational opportunities, music ministries, and intergenerational activities.

ONLINE CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

We are currently not meeting in small groups or for in-person worship. Join us Sunday morning for our live streaming worship at:
https://simivalleychurch.com/live/

Pastor Camille mails out weekly postcards for children to color. Once completed–you can email a picture of your masterpiece and she will share them during worship. If you’d like to receive a postcard please contact the church office.

All children (and their parents if they want) are invited to participate in a virtual gathering with Pastor Camille each Wednesday at 12:00pm.

Virtual Children’s Sabbath: Face and Faith time with Pastor Camille will meet weekly via the online video conference platform Zoom.

This will be short weekly gatherings–where your kids and Pastor Camille can chat, check-in and connect. It will include a time to talk about the coming Sunday’s Bible story, maybe have a chance to sing and dance together, do some science experiments and activities together and sometimes even have special guests join.

To maintain our Safe Sanctuary policies, these Virtual Children’s Sabbath sessions will be via invitation and password only. Please contact the church office if you’d like an invitation.

IN-PERSON CHILDREN MINISTRY

We can’t wait to be back together with your family again! Once it is safe to return to in person worship and gatherings–here is what you can expect!

Sunday Mornings

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday school classes are offered in the Education Building for PreK through 5th grade.  Children begin by attending the worship service with their families every Sunday for the first 15 minutes so they might participate within corporate worship.  Then they will gather together in the Fireside Room for a large group opening and praise time.  After the opening, they will divide into age-appropriate groups for lessons and activities.

  • Toddlers and Preschoolers: Room 3
  • Kindergarten thru 2nd grade: Room 5
  • 3rd thru 5th grade; Fireside Room

Infants may remain in worship with their families or visit the nursery for play and storytime.

FAITH IN ACTION
Faith is more than a belief, it is an action.  Occasionally, all Sunday School children gather together as one class for a hands-on service project.  Projects vary from crafty outreach such as making Christmas Cards for shut-ins to community-focused projects like gathering and donating school supplies for local students.  This is an opportunity for children to reach out into their community and their world with grace and love.

CHERUB and CHILDREN’s CHOIR
Our children’s vocal choir groups rehearse following worship.  Cherub Choir (for children in Prek-1st grade) rehearse in Room 5.  Children’s Choir (for children 2nd –5th grade) rehearse in the Fireside Room. both choirs sing regularly in Sunday worship as well as participating in special musical events and singing at the Family Christmas Eve service.

Wonderful Wednesdays

A time to Worship, Serve, and Grow in Christ!
Kid’s Bell Choir is for children in 3rd-5th grade.
Faithweaver Friends is for children 4 yrs old – 5th grade.

Kidz Bells will meet from 5:00—5:30 p.m. before Faithweaver Friends. Ringers in this choir will focus on basic skills, including learning to read music, learning to play as a group, and of course, learning the basic techniques of how to ring. Children, 3rd-5th, are welcome to participate.  Younger siblings who attend Faithweaver Friends can hang out with Pastor Camille and staff in the back of Witman Hall. There is no cost to participate in Kids Bell Choir. Children in Bells may continue and stay for dinner, or both dinner and Faithweaver Friends.   Children participating in Kids Bells will be walked over to dinner at 5:30 pm

Faithweaver Friends is a fantastic program that enables children to grow in faith and friendships. Through prayer, praise, and journaling, kids deepen their friendship with God. Through small group connections, games, art, and science projects kids grow in friendship with one another. And through community service projects, kids learn the blessing of being a friend to those in need.

Faithweaver Friends begins with dinner at 5:30 p.m. followed by program from 6:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.

All children, 4 years old through 5th grade, are welcome. There is a yearly registration fee of $20.00 for your first child and $10.00 for siblings. This fee will cover the cost of materials, such as student journals, classroom supplies, and more
